Dawson McCracken, 22, was fatally shot by law enforcement officers in Cookeville during an attempt to serve a domestic assault warrant late Sunday night.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) confirmed that the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on the 2000 block of N. Willow Avenue.

Officers arrived to serve the warrant and found McCracken armed with a handgun. After efforts to negotiate with him failed, McCracken drew his weapon, prompting officers to fire. Medical aid was immediately given, but McCracken died shortly after at a nearby hospital.
