Fatal Brevard County crane collapse death of Isael Martinez and Hector Pozos – Obituary
Two workers, Isael Martinez, 34, from Haines City, and Hector Pozos, 57, of Kissimmee, tragically lost their lives after a crane collapsed at a construction site on Borman Drive in Merritt Island, Brevard County. The accident took place on Wednesday afternoon as the men were pouring a concrete column at the Cape Canaveral Hospital construction site.
According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, the crane fell directly onto the workers during the incident. Martinez was employed by Baker Concrete, while Pozos was a day laborer also working under the same company. Health First, overseeing the construction, described the event as a serious weather-related accident. At the time, the National Weather Service reported wind gusts near 50 miles per hour.
Video footage showed the crane toppled over, landing on a truck cab nearby. Investigations are ongoing, led by local authorities and OSHA to determine the precise causes. Health First confirmed none of their staff were present when the collapse occurred and expressed sincere condolences to the families and all affected by this tragedy.
Gilbane Building, managing the project’s construction, also expressed deep sympathies and stated that work has been halted while the investigation proceeds. Both companies are cooperating fully with officials to understand the incident. The site remains secured as authorities continue their work.
Our thoughts remain with the families, friends, and colleagues of Isael Martinez and Hector Pozos during this difficult time.
