Jason Payne, 56, of Carnesville, Georgia, tragically lost his life Saturday evening after a tree fell on his vehicle during severe storms in Banks County.

According to the Georgia Department of Public Safety, Payne was driving his 2000 Nissan Altima eastbound on GA-51 near Garrison Road when a large tree on the south side of the highway collapsed onto the roof of his car. The impact caused fatal injuries, and Payne was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 7 p.m.

Governor Brian Kemp acknowledged the fatality via social media, offering condolences to Payne’s family and emphasizing prayers for first responders and those affected by the powerful storm system sweeping through the region.
