Fatal Garland County car crash death of Lane M. Thomas – Obituary
Lane M. Thomas, a 22-year-old from Plummerville, was killed early Sunday morning in a head-on collision with a patrol car driven by a Garland County Sheriff’s deputy, according to a report released by the Arkansas Department of Public Safety.
The crash occurred around 4:42 a.m. on Highway 5 just north of Millcreek Road. Authorities say Thomas was traveling north in a 2022 Nissan when he crossed the centerline and hit a southbound patrol vehicle driven by Deputy Gavan Mason, also 22, of Hot Springs.
Following the collision, Thomas’s vehicle veered off the road to the east and stopped facing north. The deputy’s patrol unit went off the west side of the highway, then came back onto the road and overturned.
Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene by the Garland County Coroner. Deputy Mason sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs by LifeNet.
The Arkansas State Police are investigating the crash. Foggy conditions were reported at the time, but the roadway was dry.
