Fatal Astoria hit-and-run death of Patricia Harrison – Obituary
Patricia Harrison, a 77-year-old resident of Astoria, Oregon, lost her life Sunday morning after a tragic hit-and-run incident at the intersection of 16th Street and Irving Avenue. Authorities say the crash occurred just after 9 a.m.
Astoria police responded to reports of a pedestrian-involved crash and found Harrison deceased at the scene. The suspect, identified as 50-year-old Michael Munson Smith, had allegedly fled after striking Harrison, subsequently crashing into another vehicle at 17th and Irving before continuing to drive south on 17th Street.
Smith was later located by police on Jerome Avenue and taken into custody without incident. He now faces several serious charges including second-degree manslaughter, driving under the influence of intoxicants, and multiple counts related to fleeing the scene and reckless behavior.
The Oregon State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction team and Clatsop County Major Crimes Team are assisting in the investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to reach out to Detective Madyson Hanna at the Astoria Police Department.
