Sharon Oakley dies in fatal Henrico pedestrian crash

Fatal Henrico pedestrian crash death of Sharon Oakley – Obituary

Sharon Oakley, 70, tragically lost her life after being struck by vehicles in a pedestrian accident in Henrico County early Friday morning. The incident occurred near the intersection of Broad Street and John Rolfe Parkway around 4:53 a.m., according to Henrico County Police.

Officers responding to the scene found Oakley in the roadway with severe injuries and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Police revealed that two vehicles were involved in the collision: a Toyota RAV4 traveling east on West Broad Street and a bobtail truck, which is the tractor unit of a tractor-trailer. Both vehicles made contact with Oakley while she was reportedly standing in the middle of the road.

Authorities confirmed that neither alcohol nor speed played a role in the crash. However, Oakley was wearing dark clothing at the time, which police believe may have contributed to the accident. Both drivers remained at the scene and cooperated fully with the investigation.

This heartbreaking event marks the sixth pedestrian fatality in Henrico County this year. Police spokesperson Karina Bolster emphasized the importance of road safety and highlighted ongoing community efforts, including the “WOAH!” campaign—short for “Watch Out Ahead, Henrico.” This program encourages pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers to stay alert and prioritize safety.

To further support pedestrian safety, the county offers free reflective vests at several public locations, including police stations, libraries, recreation centers, and government buildings.

Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact Henrico Police at 804-501-5000, Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000, or submit tips via the P3Tips app.
