Fatal Palm Beach Boulevard shooting death of Alex Johnson – Obituary
Alex Johnson, 25, lost his life in a tragic shooting incident that occurred Sunday morning near Palm Beach Boulevard in Fort Myers.
Johnson, who had recently celebrated his 25th birthday, was identified during a court hearing for the accused shooter, 41-year-old Yanko Romero. According to authorities, Johnson had been preparing to go fishing with family at the Oasis boat ramp when he was shot and killed.
His sister recounted that Johnson was simply enjoying time with loved ones when the violence erupted in front of them. The family is now calling for justice in his memory.
Johnson was known by his colleagues at Advanced Landscaping Solutions as a dedicated team member and a pillar of support. A tribute posted on social media described him as not only a hardworking employee but also a beloved brother-in-law and lifelong friend. “He was the glue that held our team together,” the message read.
Following the shooting, Romero was seen near the WINK News station on Palm Beach Boulevard. Surveillance footage showed him climbing behind a fence and dropping a tarp, which revealed a handgun. Police apprehended him on the scene and later booked him into the Lee County Jail.
Romero now faces several charges, including homicide, multiple weapons violations, aggravated assault, and obstruction of justice. Law enforcement also searched the nearby mangroves along Billy’s Creek for additional evidence.
Authorities confirmed that there was no known connection between Johnson and Romero. The Fort Myers Police Department and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office continue their investigation.
Johnson’s family and coworkers continue to mourn the loss of a man remembered for his kindness, ambition, and deep love for his fiancée, Mallory. His death has left a lasting void among those who knew and loved him.
