Fatal Coney Island shooting death of Dorothy Dixon – Obituary
Dorothy Dixon, 53, was fatally shot Monday morning in Coney Island during a shooting incident that also left a man seriously injured. The violence unfolded around 11:30 a.m. on West 33rd Street near Neptune Avenue.
Authorities said the shooting began when two men got into a dispute, and one of them pulled out a gun and started firing. Dixon and a 47-year-old man, both construction workers uninvolved in the argument, were hit by the gunfire. Dixon was struck in the chest and died at the hospital. The man was hospitalized in stable condition.
Initial reports described the incident as a drive-by shooting, but investigators later confirmed the suspect exited a vehicle before opening fire. The gunman’s identity and the individual he was arguing with have not yet been disclosed.
This shooting marks the second homicide in Coney Island in just over a month, following a previously celebrated murder-free year in 2018. Anyone with details about the case is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
