Federico Gonzalez, 20, was struck and killed while attempting to cross Loop 410 in San Antonio early Saturday morning, authorities have confirmed.

According to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office, the incident took place around 1:50 a.m. near the intersection of Loop 410 and Perrin Beitel. When officers arrived, they discovered Gonzalez deceased in the main lanes of the highway, with a Toyota Tundra pickup truck stopped nearby at the I-35 exit.

Investigators reported that Gonzalez had exited a nearby dance hall and, for reasons still unclear, tried to cross the highway on foot. He was hit by the pickup truck during the attempt.

The driver of the truck, identified as 42-year-old Joseph Cortez, was evaluated by officers and was reportedly intoxicated at the time. He was taken into custody following the crash.

The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to gather details surrounding the tragic incident.
