Fatal Sacramento car crash death of Huynh Huu Duc Nguyen – Obituary
Huynh Huu Duc Nguyen, a 30-year-old man from Elk Grove, was killed in a tragic seven-car pileup that occurred during a police chase on Saturday in Sacramento’s Pocket neighborhood.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Nguyen was pronounced dead shortly after 11 a.m. at the intersection of Florin Road and Greenhaven Drive. He was one of the victims struck when a suspect fleeing from law enforcement crashed into multiple vehicles.
Authorities say the suspect, Daniel Cunningham, 34, had an outstanding felony warrant and was wanted in connection with a domestic violence incident from June 1. On Saturday, a woman contacted police requesting assistance while retrieving her belongings from Cunningham’s residence on Farm Dale Way.
Police located Cunningham near the residence and tried to stop his vehicle, but he fled the scene. During the pursuit, he reportedly sped westbound on Florin Road and collided with six other cars near Greenhaven Drive.
Nguyen was inside one of those vehicles and died as a result of the impact. Following the crash, Cunningham allegedly attempted to flee on foot but was later apprehended.
The California Highway Patrol has taken over the investigation of the incident. Cunningham is currently in custody at Sacramento County Main Jail and is facing multiple charges, including manslaughter, felony hit-and-run causing death or serious injury, evading police, domestic violence, and parole violation. He is being held without the possibility of bail and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
Police urge anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant information to come forward, with the option to remain anonymous through Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers or the P3 Tips app.
