Fatal Williamson County officer-involved shooting death of Jesse Shelton – Obituary

Jesse Shelton, a 43-year-old man from Marion, was fatally shot by law enforcement during an incident in Williamson County on Friday.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office called in the Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigations Zone 7 to conduct an inquiry into the events that unfolded in the 23000 block of Drake Road in Creal Springs.

According to reports, deputies responded to a 911 call about Shelton forcibly entering a residence. When confronted by the resident, Shelton fled into nearby woods. Deputies conducted a search with the assistance of a K9 unit, which tracked Shelton several hundred yards to another home on Pleasant Valley Road.

At that location, deputies found a man fitting Shelton’s description who had also broken into the second residence. Shelton reportedly brandished a firearm and pointed it at several deputies. In response, a deputy discharged his weapon, resulting in Shelton’s death.
