Fatal Liberty City hit-and-run death of Koritza Ortiz – Obituary

A devastating hit-and-run incident early Monday morning in Miami’s Liberty City resulted in the death of 76-year-old Koritza Ortiz.

Officers arrived at the intersection of Northwest Seventh Avenue and 60th Street around 8:10 a.m. and discovered Ortiz unconscious with visible injuries. Emergency responders from Miami Fire Rescue declared her deceased shortly thereafter.

Initial findings indicate Ortiz was struck while walking eastbound along 60th Street, though it is not yet confirmed if she was using a marked crosswalk. The crash led to a temporary closure of Northwest Seventh Avenue between 58th and 62nd streets, also known as Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, causing traffic disruptions until just before noon.

The medical examiner has removed Ortiz’s remains from the scene, allowing traffic to resume. Authorities continue to investigate the incident to identify the vehicle and driver responsible for the fatal collision.
