Fatal Miami car crash death of Andrew Loretta – Obituary
Andrew Loretta, 50, lost his life in a tragic crash Tuesday evening in Miami when he was struck by a speeding vehicle while running along the side of the road.
The deadly incident took place near Southwest 19th Street and 21st Avenue around 6:53 p.m. According to authorities, the driver, identified as 36-year-old Andres Roberto Fiallo Estupinan of Miami, was driving a 2012 gray Volkswagen Passat at a high rate of speed when he hit Loretta from behind. The force of the collision launched Loretta into the air and severed both of his legs. He was declared dead at the scene.
Police said that after hitting Loretta, Fiallo Estupinan’s vehicle crashed into a parked ice cream truck, which then collided with a Toyota. The Volkswagen continued on and struck a white Mercedes-Benz parked nearby.
Witnesses reported that Fiallo Estupinan did not slow down or attempt to avoid any of the crashes. After the final impact, he fled the scene on foot to nearby Shenandoah Park, where bystanders restrained him until police arrived.
Emergency services transported Fiallo Estupinan and a woman who was inside the ice cream truck to Ryder Trauma Center. He suffered a fractured ankle, and the woman sustained a skull injury.
Fiallo Estupinan now faces charges including leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death and serious injury. Police noted that additional charges may follow pending a search of the vehicle.
Local residents expressed frustration, saying the crash highlights a longstanding problem with reckless driving in the area.
