Two high school students, Avery Sullivan and Tamiya O’Quinn, lost their lives in a deadly vehicle collision that happened on Saturday in Terre Haute, Indiana. The Vigo County School Corporation confirmed their identities following the tragic event.
The crash took place at the crossing of Oak and Thirteenth Streets. According to eyewitnesses, an SUV was seen racing west on Oak Street, reportedly ignoring stop signs, while some passengers were dangerously hanging out of the sunroof and windows.
Authorities say Misty Casey, 30, was behind the wheel of the SUV. The speeding vehicle eventually collided with a pickup truck traveling south. Sullivan and O’Quinn, who were passengers in the SUV, were pronounced dead following the crash. Two additional individuals sustained injuries and were hospitalized, while the driver of the pickup truck received minor wounds.
Following the incident, police administered blood tests to Misty Casey at the hospital. The results revealed a blood alcohol content of .22, along with the presence of THC. In response, prosecutors filed multiple charges against her on June 11, 2025.
The charges include several felonies for neglect of dependents resulting in serious or bodily injury, and multiple counts of causing death while driving under the influence—both with high alcohol levels and controlled substances present. She also faces misdemeanor charges related to intoxicated driving and operating a vehicle with illegal substances in her system.
The community is mourning the sudden loss of Avery Sullivan and Tamiya O’Quinn as legal proceedings begin against the accused driver.
