Avery Sullivan and Tamiya O’Quinn tragically lost their lives in a high-speed collision that took place Saturday at the intersection of Oak and Thirteenth Streets in Terre Haute. According to reports from the Vigo County School Corporation, the two teens were passengers in an SUV driven by Misty Casey, 30, who was observed speeding westbound on Oak Street while ignoring stop signs. Witnesses also noted passengers hanging out of the vehicle’s sunroof and windows.
The SUV collided with a southbound pickup truck, resulting in the deaths of Sullivan and O’Quinn. Two additional occupants of the SUV were injured and hospitalized, and the pickup truck driver sustained minor injuries.
Authorities confirmed that blood tests conducted at the hospital revealed Casey’s blood alcohol concentration was .22, along with the presence of THC. Following the incident, Casey has been charged with multiple offenses, including neglect of a dependent causing serious injury, and vehicular homicide related to operating under the influence, with various felony and misdemeanor counts filed against her in Vigo County.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing as the community mourns the loss of the two young lives.
