Fatal Anoka County shooting death of Ayub Abdullahi Mohamed – Obituary

Ayub Abdullahi Mohamed, 20, was charged in connection to the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Sudais Abdi Omar outside Northtown Mall in Anoka County, though court records reveal Mohamed was also linked to a separate deadly shooting in Columbia Heights earlier this year.

Omar was shot in the chest in the Best Buy parking lot at the mall on Friday evening and later died at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids. Law enforcement reported three suspects fled the scene, including Mohamed, who was apprehended at a nearby SkyZone Trampoline Park with a gun magazine concealed in his sock. Two other suspects, ages 14 and 15, remain at large as the investigation continues.

Previously, in March, Mohamed faced charges for aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter after a February incident in Columbia Heights where a 16-year-old unintentionally discharged a rifle inside a car, killing the driver, 20-year-old Ibrahim Faisal Dabarani. Mohamed is accused of bringing the rifle into the vehicle, contributing to that fatal shooting.

According to the latest complaint, Blaine police were called to the Best Buy parking lot around 5:15 p.m. Friday, where Omar was found with a gunshot wound and nearby shell casings.

A Best Buy employee reported seeing three males fleeing the area and entering the mall before heading toward SkyZone, leading to Mohamed’s arrest in a restroom there.
