Fatal Winona dump truck crash death of Daniel James Bambenek – Obituary

Daniel James Bambenek, a 68-year-old man from Fountain City, was killed Monday evening when the dump truck he was operating overturned in Winona. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the incident occurred at 7:24 p.m. as Bambenek was driving a 2023 Freightliner Straight Truck northbound and attempted to enter Highway 14.

The truck crossed both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 14 before veering into a ditch and flipping onto its side. Emergency personnel from the Winona Police Department, Fire Department, and Ambulance Service responded to the scene.

Authorities confirmed that road conditions were dry at the time of the crash, no alcohol was involved, and Bambenek had been wearing a seatbelt.
