Danny Harrison dies in fatal Jeff Davis Parish boating accident

Fatal Jeff Davis Parish boating death of Danny Harrison – Obituary

Danny Harrison, a 71-year-old man from Lake Charles, Louisiana, lost his life in a tragic boating accident on Sunday evening in Jeff Davis Parish. According to authorities, the incident occurred on the Calcasieu River while Harrison was operating a 16-foot boat.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reported that Harrison’s boat struck an unknown object, which caused him to be thrown into the water. After he was ejected, the still-moving boat began circling uncontrollably, and its spinning propeller fatally struck him.

Although Harrison was wearing a life jacket at the time of the accident, investigators believe he was not using a kill switch lanyard—a safety device required by law for certain boats, which automatically shuts off the engine if the operator falls overboard. Harrison’s boat, equipped with a 40-horsepower hand tiller outboard motor, fell under this regulation.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division is continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
