Elizabeth Swarey dies in fatal Franklin County horse and buggy crash
Fatal Franklin County horse and buggy crash death of Elizabeth Swarey – Obituary
Elizabeth Swarey, 68, from Dry Run, passed away on June 6 due to injuries she suffered in a collision on May 23 involving a horse and buggy and a motorcycle. The accident took place at 5:40 p.m. on Path Valley Road (Route 75) near its junction with Dry Run Road South in Fannett Township, located in northwestern Franklin County.
Swarey was a passenger in the horse and buggy operated by Menno Swarey, 69, also of Dry Run. The buggy and a 2024 Kawasaki motorcycle driven by 30-year-old Nathaniel K. Sanders of East Waterford were traveling south when Sanders attempted to overtake the buggy on the left. As the buggy began a left turn onto Dry Run Road South, the motorcycle collided with its side.
Following the impact, Sanders was thrown from his motorcycle, and both Swareys were ejected from the buggy. All sustained serious injuries and were airlifted from the scene. Sanders was taken to Penn State Hershey Medical Center, while Menno and Elizabeth Swarey were transported to Penn State Holy Spirit Medical Center in Camp Hill.
The Cumberland County Coroner’s Office officially confirmed Elizabeth Swarey’s death at 6:17 p.m. on June 6.
