Jessica Lee Madrid, 37, passed away on June 6 due to injuries she suffered in a motorcycle collision on May 31, which also claimed the life of her husband, John Jacob Madrid. The Pueblo County Coroner identified Jessica as the second victim of the tragic accident.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, the crash happened around 7:15 p.m. on May 31. John Madrid was driving their Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on 29th Lane and failed to stop at a stop sign at South Road. Jessica was riding as a passenger. At the same time, a 28-year-old man was driving a Hyundai Tucson eastbound on South Road, approaching 29th Street.
The motorcycle did not yield at the stop sign and was struck by the SUV traveling east on South Road. Both Jessica and John Madrid were ejected from the bike after the collision. The motorcycle came to rest just south of the road, while the SUV veered off the road but remained upright. The SUV driver was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.
Neither Jessica nor John was wearing a helmet or protective gear at the time of the crash. Both were rushed to the hospital with critical injuries. John Madrid died at the hospital shortly after, while Jessica succumbed to her injuries six days later at a regional medical center.
