Fatal Syracuse shooting death of Juan J. Rodriguez – Obituary

Juan J. Rodriguez, a 22-year-old resident of Syracuse, was shot and killed Sunday evening on the city’s East Side. According to Syracuse police, the incident took place around 6:10 p.m. in the 200 block of Westmoreland Avenue near the Parkside Commons apartment complex.

 

Rodriguez was found at the scene with a gunshot wound and was transported to Upstate University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The investigation into his killing is ongoing, and police have not announced any arrests.

 

Rodriguez’s death was the fourth shooting in Syracuse that day. Earlier in the day, a man in his 30s was shot in the leg near Erie Boulevard West and Geddes Street around 3:45 a.m. Later, at approximately 1 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in the back in the 600 block of Onondaga Avenue near Lower Onondaga Park. At 5:45 p.m., an 18-year-old sustained a gunshot wound to the lower back on Park Street.

 

Authorities continue to investigate the string of shootings and ask anyone with information to come forward.
