Fatal East Shoreham drowning death of Matthew Zoll – Obituary

Matthew Zoll, the suspect in the November stabbing death of his father, was identified as the body discovered in a pool at a family home in East Shoreham. Zoll’s remains were found on May 22 when the homeowner, a Suffolk police detective, and his teenage son opened the pool for the season. The exact cause and time of death have not yet been determined.

Zoll had fled the Rocky Point residence on Quail Road on November 9 after allegedly stabbing his father, Joseph Zoll. He escaped in a black GMC Yukon but crashed the vehicle at the intersection of Route 25A and William Floyd Parkway, just about half a mile from the home where his body was later recovered.

Following the stabbing, a large-scale search involving the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force and Suffolk police was conducted, focusing on the wooded areas near William Floyd Parkway and the nearby Brookhaven State Park. Dozens of officers and helicopters combed the dense pine barrens region for days.

Joseph Zoll was found at home by law enforcement after a 911 call and later died at Stony Brook University Hospital. Matthew Zoll’s body in the pool closes a tragic chapter in this investigation.
