Micah Booker dies in fatal Columbia police shooting

Fatal Columbia police shooting death of Micah Booker – Obituary

Micah Booker, 23, of Columbia, Maryland, was fatally shot by police Monday night following a domestic incident that escalated on Oakland Mills Road. According to the Maryland Attorney General’s Office Independent Investigations Division, Booker was involved in a stabbing that led to a confrontation with law enforcement.

Police were initially called to a residence on Wilbur Court after a 26-year-old man reported being stabbed several times by his brother, later identified as Booker. Shortly after, Booker himself called 911 to report the incident.

Responding officers located Booker standing in the road holding a large, double-edged spear. According to police accounts and witness statements, Booker advanced toward an officer with the weapon. Despite repeated commands to drop the spear and the officer retreating, Booker allegedly continued forward, prompting the officer to fire his weapon.

Booker was pronounced dead at the scene. The stabbing victim, his older brother, was transported to Shock Trauma in Baltimore and remains in critical condition.

The officer involved in the shooting has been identified as Michael McKee, a two-year member of the Howard County Police Department, currently assigned to Field Operations. The investigation is ongoing under the Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division, as required by Maryland law for all police-involved fatalities.

Authorities are asking anyone with information or footage related to the incident to contact the IID.
