Fatal Paulding County shooting death of Shawn Christopher Brannon – Obituary
Authorities in Paulding County have identified 41-year-old Shawn Christopher Brannon of Piedmont, Alabama, as the victim of a deadly road rage incident on Monday afternoon.
According to investigators, the confrontation unfolded near the intersection of Ridge and Cohran Store roads around 2:25 p.m. Brannon reportedly contacted 911 himself, stating he had been shot during a dispute with the driver of a black SUV. After sustaining his injuries, Brannon drove to a nearby fire station along Ridge Road for help and was later transported to Wellstar Paulding Hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds.
Following their investigation, law enforcement located and arrested 46-year-old Collins Pruitt at his home in Cobb County. Deputies stated the altercation stemmed from a road rage incident that escalated into a fatal shooting. Pruitt was taken into custody without resistance and booked into the Paulding County Jail.
Pruitt faces a felony voluntary manslaughter charge, as detectives determined the shooting did not legally qualify as murder. Officials have not shared additional details about what led to that decision.
