Fatal Kent County drowning death of Francisco Santa-Meza – Obituary

Francisco Santa-Meza, 18, of Byron Township, tragically lost his life after drowning in Campbell Lake on Sunday, June 8, in Kent County’s Bowne Township.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m., when the teenager went underwater and failed to resurface. Emergency responders from the Kent County Sheriff’s Office, along with firefighters from Alto and Caledonia townships, began searching immediately but were initially unsuccessful in locating him.

Assisted by local residents and firefighters, the sheriff’s Marine Patrol used boats to search the lake. After an intensive effort, they recovered Santa-Meza’s body from the water.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
