Fatal Mason County ORV crash death of Kieara Stockwell – Obituary
Kieara Stockwell, a 16-year-old from Ludington, tragically died from injuries sustained in an off-road vehicle accident that occurred last Wednesday in Mason County. The Mason County Sheriff’s Office confirmed her death on Monday morning.
The crash took place around 7:37 p.m. in Logan Township, just south of Barothy Road. Emergency responders arrived to find two 16-year-old girls injured at the scene. Stockwell had suffered critical injuries and was airlifted by Aero Med to DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, where she later died.
Preliminary findings from the Mason County Crash Reconstruction team indicate that Stockwell had been driving a 2017 Honda Rancher 420. The ORV veered off the trail and flipped, trapping her beneath the vehicle.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
To honor her memory, Stockwell’s family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs of her funeral, memorial service, and a headstone. The campaign’s description remembers Kieara as a vibrant and loving young woman who cherished time with her family, friends, and especially her baby niece. She enjoyed riding her dirt bike, music, tanning, and sleepovers at her brother’s home. Her family says she had a gift for making everyone feel loved and truly lived every moment to the fullest.
