Landon Baldwin dies in fatal Point Loma plane crash

Landon Baldwin dies in fatal Point Loma plane crash
Fatal Point Loma plane crash death of Landon Baldwin – Obituary

Landon Baldwin, the pilot of a twin-engine Cessna 414, lost his life in a tragic crash off the coast of Point Loma, California. The incident occurred Sunday around 12:30 p.m., just minutes after taking off from San Diego International Airport en route to Phoenix.

According to preliminary aviation data, the plane lost 1,900 feet of altitude in just 13 seconds during a descending left turn before erratically climbing and ultimately crashing into the ocean roughly three miles from Point Loma.

Wreckage from the aircraft was discovered in waters approximately 200 feet deep. Despite a 35-hour search effort covering 300 square miles, the U.S. Coast Guard and other agencies suspended recovery operations on Tuesday morning.

Baldwin was from the Gila Valley area of Arizona. The National Transportation Safety Board continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
