Laura Parker, a 67-year-old retired Cleveland police officer, lost her life early Tuesday in a house fire on West 148th Street, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Parker, who dedicated nearly three decades to the Cleveland Division of Police before retiring in 2015, was remembered by Cleveland’s Director of Public Safety, Wayne Drummond. He praised her long-standing service, highlighting her contributions in multiple districts and specialized units, including the Sex Crimes Unit. Throughout her career, Parker received numerous honors from city officials and law enforcement colleagues.
Officials from the Cleveland Division of Fire stated that Parker died despite determined efforts by a neighbor and another resident to save her. Although the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, authorities have ruled out arson. The blaze resulted in approximately $200,000 in property damage.
