Matthew Burns dies in fatal Wareham motorcycle crash

Fatal Wareham motorcycle crash death of Matthew Burns – Obituary

Matthew Burns, 49, from South Attleboro, lost his life on Thursday after his motorcycle collided with an SUV on Cranberry Highway in Wareham, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz.

 

The incident took place around 4:45 p.m. near 2309 Cranberry Highway. Witnesses reported that Burns, who was heading north on his motorcycle, appeared to lose control and drifted into the southbound lane, where he was struck by a white Mercedes GLC300. Emergency responders from Wareham Police and Massachusetts State Police found Burns unresponsive at the scene. Despite efforts to revive him through CPR, he was declared dead.

 

At the time of the crash, Burns was riding with four other motorcyclists. One of them sustained minor injuries.

 

Authorities interviewed the driver of the SUV, who was receiving medical care at a nearby hospital. She told investigators that she was traveling south when she noticed multiple motorcycles heading north. As she navigated a curve in the road, one of the motorcyclists lost control and crossed into her lane, leaving her unable to avoid the collision.

 

The Massachusetts State Police are continuing their investigation into the crash.
