Zachariah Benjamin dies in fatal Harris County hit-and-run crash

Fatal Harris County hit-and-run crash death of Zachariah Benjamin – Obituary

Twelve-year-old Zachariah Benjamin lost his life Tuesday night after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run incident in northeast Harris County, according to the sheriff’s office.

Family members say Zachariah had been visiting a friend and was on his way back home around 8:40 p.m., riding his bicycle along the sidewalk. His sister, Monique Brown, said he was doing exactly what he was supposed to — heading home before it got too late.

Authorities believe that Zachariah may have been fleeing from a dog when he lost control of his bike in a patch of loose sand, causing him to fall into the roadway. At that moment, a black Chrysler 300 sedan struck him and did not stop.

Footage obtained from a nearby home captured part of the tragic event. Investigators are still working to determine if speed played a role in the crash, and the search for the driver continues.

“I just want the person to come forward,” said Brown. “Leaving the scene only makes it worse. It was a terrible accident, but walking away from it made it even harder for our family.”

Brown expressed the deep pain of not being there in her brother’s final moments, saying she wished she could have held him before he passed. She also shared that she takes comfort in believing he is now reunited with loved ones who have passed.

Zachariah’s family continues to grieve while calling for justice and urging the responsible driver to come forward and take accountability.
