Fatal Rich County motorcycle crash death of Zachariah David Simons Jr. – Obituary

Zachariah David Simons Jr., a 27-year-old man from Brigham City, died Saturday night following a motorcycle accident in Rich County, Utah.

According to Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cade Brenchley, Simons was riding eastbound along State Route 39 near the Monte Cristo area just after 10 p.m. When approaching milepost 53, his motorcycle collided with a cow that had wandered onto the road. The impact caused the motorcycle to catch fire. Witnesses had to travel several miles east to find cell service and call emergency responders. First responders attempted CPR and other resuscitation efforts at the scene, but Simons was pronounced dead. The area where the crash happened is known for open cattle grazing. It is unclear whether Simons was wearing a helmet at the time.

Family members shared in a GoFundMe message that Zachariah was a loving father, son, and brother who died doing what he loved—riding his motorcycle. He leaves behind a two-month-old son. The family has established a fund to assist with funeral costs.
