An 18-year-old teenager, Zoey Barr, tragically lost her life in a single-vehicle accident in Harnett County early Tuesday morning.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the crash took place near the intersection of Norrington Road and Autry Road, just west of Lillington, around 2:45 a.m. Barr was driving along the roadway when she veered left, struck an embankment, and her vehicle flipped into a pond.

Officials reported that speed was a contributing factor in the crash, estimating Barr was traveling around 80 miles per hour before losing control. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

Emergency responders were not alerted to the crash until approximately 16 hours later, delaying the discovery of the submerged vehicle. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident is ongoing.
