Fatal Surrey shooting death of Satwinder Sharma – Obituary

Satwinder Sharma, a 56-year-old resident of Abbotsford, was fatally shot in Surrey on Wednesday while at his workplace. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has confirmed his identity and stated that Sharma had no prior criminal record.

According to IHIT spokesperson Sgt. Freda Fong, the preliminary findings suggest the shooting was a targeted act, and no other individuals were harmed during the incident. Authorities are still investigating the motive and surrounding circumstances of the killing.

The shooting took place near the intersection of 160th Street and 84 Avenue between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. IHIT is asking for anyone with dashcam video from the area during that time to come forward.

Sgt. Fong noted the area is commonly busy with pedestrians and emphasized how fortunate it was that no bystanders were hurt. She added that IHIT is maintaining communication with Sharma’s family, who are grieving this tragic loss.

The incident marks the third homicide in Surrey so far in 2025. Surrey Police Service and RCMP Provincial Operations Support Unit responded to the initial call around 3:45 p.m. on June 11 and found Sharma suffering from critical injuries. Despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

IHIT is now leading the investigation, and the public is encouraged to provide any information by calling 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or emailing [email protected].
