Fatal Grand Rapids shooting death of Semaj James – Obituary

Authorities in Grand Rapids, Michigan, are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred early Friday morning, resulting in the death of 30-year-old Semaj James. Officers with the Grand Rapids Police Department were dispatched to Cass Avenue Southeast around 1 a.m. on June 13, 2025.

When law enforcement arrived at the residence, they found James unresponsive. He was declared dead at the scene. An autopsy conducted by the Kent County Medical Examiner later confirmed that the manner of death was homicide.
