Fatal Clearwater County camping accident death of Sheldon Medford – Obituary
Sheldon Medford, an 18-year-old from Lewiston, Idaho, tragically lost his life on June 7 when a boulder fell on him during a camping trip in Clearwater County.
The Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident happened around 9:30 p.m. near Northfork Drive in the Ahsahka area. Medford had been camping and fishing with a friend when the boulder dislodged from above a riverbank.
According to reports, the falling rock first struck Medford’s friend on the arm before fatally crushing Medford, who was fishing nearby. Emergency crews arrived to find him pinned under the massive boulder and declared him deceased at the scene.
Authorities have not indicated foul play, and the incident is being treated as a tragic accident.
