Authorities have released the names of two women who lost their lives in a suspected DUI collision that occurred early Wednesday morning in Pueblo, Colorado. The victims have been identified as 55-year-old Carolyn Marie Granger and 36-year-old Kayla Marie Medina.
The Pueblo Police Department reported that the crash took place around 2 a.m. at the northbound I-25 on-ramp near 13th Street. Granger and Medina were reportedly walking southbound along the on-ramp, pushing a bicycle, when a vehicle traveling northbound struck them.
Emergency personnel arrived at the scene to find one woman deceased, while the other was transported to a hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.
Investigators traced the involved vehicle to a nearby railroad track, where it had come to a stop. The suspected driver, identified as 41-year-old Carlos Miranda, was later located and questioned at his residence. According to police, Miranda admitted to driving the car and initially believed he had hit an animal.
Miranda was arrested and booked into the Pueblo County Detention Center. He is facing charges including driving under the influence and two counts of vehicular homicide.
