Gavin Carrillo dies in fatal Woodcrest crash
Fatal Woodcrest crash death of Gavin Carrillo – Obituary
A 14-year-old boy, Gavin Carrillo of Riverside, lost his life following a tragic collision involving a dirt bike and an SUV in Woodcrest early Thursday morning.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the incident took place around 6:00 a.m. at the intersection of Gardner and Krameria avenues. According to authorities, Carrillo was riding his dirt bike westbound on Krameria when he entered the intersection simultaneously with a Toyota 4Runner traveling northbound on Gardner.
The intersection, which is governed by stop signs, became the site of the deadly crash. It remains unclear which of the two parties may have failed to yield at the stop signs. Authorities are also investigating whether the dirt bike was permitted on public roads. At just 14 years old, Carrillo was too young to legally hold a driver’s license.
When emergency responders from the Riverside County Fire Department arrived, they found Carrillo pinned underneath the SUV. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota was not injured. Police questioned the motorist, whose name has not been released, but no arrest was made.
CHP investigators are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact their Riverside office at 951-324-7210.
