Jimmie L. Slater dies in fatal Choctaw County car crash

Fatal Choctaw County car crash death of Jimmie L. Slater – Obituary

An 86-year-old man, Jimmie L. Slater, died Thursday following a serious two-vehicle collision that happened earlier in the week in Choctaw County, Alabama.

The crash occurred around 2:50 p.m. on Monday along U.S. Route 84, roughly five miles east of Silas, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Authorities say Slater was driving a 2018 Nissan Altima when it was hit by a 2022 Kenworth tractor-trailer operated by 25-year-old Meyoni T. McClain.

Investigators noted that Slater was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident. He suffered critical injuries and was taken to UAB Hospital for medical attention. Sadly, he passed away Thursday from the injuries sustained in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol Division of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
