Robert “Rob” Gauthier, a 60-year-old resident of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, lost his life this week following a collision while riding his bicycle in Bellingham, Massachusetts. Police received the crash report around 12:45 p.m. on Monday near 120 South Main Street.
Emergency responders from Bellingham Police and Fire Departments discovered Gauthier at the scene with life-threatening injuries. He received first aid from the fire crew before being rushed to Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket, where he was later pronounced dead.
The motorist involved, a juvenile from Sutton, Massachusetts, stayed at the site and was treated by Bellingham Fire personnel before being taken to Milford Regional Medical Center. Following the investigation, the young driver was issued a criminal citation on charges of motor vehicle homicide, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and violating marked lane regulations.
Gauthier was known for his strong faith and active lifestyle. His obituary notes that he cherished each day, striving to improve the lives of those around him. He was committed to regular exercise—whether walking, cycling, or lifting weights—and had a fondness for fishing and playing pool.
Family, friends, and community members are invited to honor Rob’s memory at a visitation on Tuesday, June 17, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Avenue, Woonsocket. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, at St. Joseph Church, 1200 Mendon Road, Woonsocket, with interment thereafter at Resurrection Cemetery in Cumberland.
The crash remains under review by Bellingham Police Accident Reconstruction Officer Ryan Gonthier, with support from the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council Accident Reconstruction Unit and the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
