Fatal Bexar County flood deaths of Roseann Cobb and Derwin Anderson – Obituary

Roseann Cobb, 41, and Derwin Anderson, 43, were among the victims who tragically lost their lives during last week’s deadly flash floods in Bexar County. The Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed their identities as part of the 13 fatalities caused by the record-breaking rainfall in San Antonio, the worst the area has seen in over a decade.

Authorities reported that Anderson was trapped in his submerged vehicle near Callaghan Road and U.S. 90 after calling his wife to say he could not escape the rising water. His family mounted search efforts, including a GoFundMe campaign initiated by his father to support travel and aid for the family. Meanwhile, Cobb’s body was recovered from the vicinity of Wurzbach Parkway.

These two victims bring the confirmed death toll to 12, with only one more victim yet to be identified. The floodwaters overwhelmed creeks and roads early Thursday morning, catching many drivers in their vehicles and sweeping them into the overflowing Beitel Creek. Emergency crews were able to rescue several people clinging to trees or trapped in their cars, but the flood’s destruction resulted in numerous losses.

The community has planned a vigil to honor those who perished, underscoring the profound impact of this disaster. Rescue and recovery operations continue as authorities investigate the full scope of the tragedy.
