Coplin Fickett, a 32-year-old resident of Durham, Maine, tragically died Saturday evening in a collision involving his motorcycle and a dump truck. The accident took place around 6:12 p.m. near 1101 Hallowell Road, according to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators reported that Fickett was riding a 1986 Suzuki LS650 northbound when a 2025 Peterbilt 589 dump truck, operated by a 24-year-old man from Pownal and owned by Moon Construction Services LLC, attempted to turn south from the Jaiden Landscaping gravel pit, crossing into the northbound lane.
To avoid the truck, Fickett leaned the motorcycle over on a curve, but still collided with the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The dump truck driver was not injured. Multiple agencies, including the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Crash Reconstruction Unit and Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit, are continuing to investigate the crash.
The community mourns the loss of Fickett as authorities seek to determine the full circumstances surrounding this fatal collision.
