David Lee Nelson dies in fatal Joliet car crash

David Lee Nelson, a 57-year-old man from Plainfield, lost his life following a head-on collision Saturday evening in Joliet. The crash occurred near the intersection of Black Road and Magnolia Drive just before 7 p.m.
Authorities say Nelson was behind the wheel of a westbound Buick Regal when it crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a Buick Encore traveling east. The impact caused severe injuries to two women in the Encore, both of whom were taken to Saint Joseph Medical Center in critical condition. One of the women is a 68-year-old Joliet resident, and the other is a 69-year-old passenger from Lake Station, Indiana.
After colliding with the Encore, the Buick Regal also struck a Chevrolet Silverado that was traveling eastbound. The Silverado was driven by a 26-year-old man from Joliet who did not sustain any injuries.
Nelson was transported to Saint Joseph’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 7:32 p.m., according to the Will County Coroner’s Office.
The Joliet Police Department continues to investigate the incident. Authorities are asking anyone with relevant video footage or information to contact the department’s Traffic Unit at 815-724-3193.
