Fatal Evansville shooting death of Israel Mays

Israel Mays, a 19-year-old resident of Evansville, was killed early Sunday morning following a shooting outside a large party, according to the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office.

Police officers responded around 12:30 a.m. to the 300 block of Taylor Avenue after receiving reports of gunfire at a crowded gathering. As attendees were dispersing, shots were fired outside the venue.

Authorities say Mays was struck by gunfire during the incident. He was rushed to a hospital but later died from his wounds.

Several others were injured by bullets, and one individual was hurt after being struck by a vehicle.

Witnesses informed investigators that multiple shooters may have been involved in the violence.

The Evansville Police Department continues to investigate the deadly incident.
