Fatal St. Thomas shooting death of Shyiane Degallerie – Obituary

Shyiane Degallerie, a 28-year-old man, was fatally shot in a deadly incident at Oswald Harris Court in St. Thomas on June 12. The Virgin Islands Police Department responded to reports of gunfire shortly after a call about a hit-and-run collision around 2:48 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers found Degallerie with multiple gunshot wounds and rushed him to Schneider Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

Authorities arrested 20-year-old Ajani Prentice in connection with the shooting on June 14. Investigations indicate that Prentice shot Degallerie after Degallerie allegedly drew a firearm and pointed it at a family member of Prentice. Prentice faces charges including unauthorized possession of a firearm.

The Virgin Islands Police Department continues to investigate the case and encourages anyone with information to come forward by contacting 911, the VIPD, or submitting anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers. The 2025 homicide total in the territory now stands at nineteen, with ten cases on St. Thomas and nine on St. Croix.
