Fatal Fort Lauderdale drowning death of Antwon Wilson

A tragic incident unfolded in Fort Lauderdale when 33-year-old Antwon Wilson of Lauderhill drowned after trying to save his two children from danger in the ocean.

The event occurred around 7:20 p.m. on Sunday near the B Ocean Resort on Seabreeze Boulevard. According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, Wilson entered the water after noticing one of his children, a girl estimated to be between 7 and 10 years old, having difficulty in the surf.

Both children were eventually brought to safety. Wilson, along with one of the children and a bystander who assisted in the rescue, was taken to the hospital. Wilson was later pronounced dead at Broward Health Medical Center.

The good Samaritan, Eslam Saad, who also helped during the rescue, was released from the hospital the following day. He recounted the terrifying moment he swam out to assist, helping the girl reach the shore before he himself began to struggle in the water.

Saad, a father himself, said the girl’s family embraced and thanked him as he was leaving the hospital. He described the experience as miraculous, noting that he too was submerged and feared for his life during the ordeal.

One of Wilson’s children remains hospitalized as the investigation into the drowning continues.
