Brittney Sherman dies in fatal Mobile County boat crash

Fatal Mobile County boat crash death of Brittney Sherman

A 27-year-old woman from Semmes lost her life after being thrown from a boat during a collision on Sunday evening in southern Alabama. Authorities confirmed that the victim, Brittney Sherman, was recovered from Bayou Sara on Monday morning around 10:50 a.m.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the incident took place at 5:50 p.m. when a 20-foot Avid Center Console boat collided with a 26-foot Regulator Center Console vessel. Sherman was riding in the Avid vessel at the time and was ejected into the water upon impact.

Her body was located approximately 100 yards from where she went overboard. The crash involved four other individuals, two of whom were injured.

Among the injured were 30-year-old Cody Sherman and a 4-year-old boy, both of whom were also on board the Avid vessel. They were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

In a social media post, Cody Sherman expressed his grief and pledged to care for their children. He also asked for prayers for the young boy’s recovery, describing him as incredibly strong.

The driver of the Avid vessel, 19-year-old Robert T. Lofton of Lucedale, Mississippi, and the operator of the Regulator vessel, 52-year-old Jerry Hocutt Jr. of Wilmer, were unharmed in the crash.

Multiple agencies assisted in the search and recovery efforts, including local fire departments, police departments, sheriff’s flotilla units, search and rescue teams, and state marine patrol and investigation units. The case remains under active investigation by ALEA.
