Brooklyn Park Man Vance Luther Boelter Arrested in Sibley County for Assassination of Minnesota Lawmaker
BROOKLYN PARK, MINNESOTA — Vance Luther Boelter, a 57-year-old resident of Brooklyn Park, was arrested in Sibley County in connection with the politically motivated assassination of Minnesota state House Democratic Leader Melissa Hortman and her husband, as well as the shooting of state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife.
According to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Boelter was taken into custody on Sunday during a massive manhunt in rural Green Isle. Authorities say the violent attacks occurred early Saturday, June 14, 2025, when Boelter, disguised as a police officer, first shot Hoffman and his wife at their Champlin home, then proceeded to the Hortman residence five miles away, where he fatally shot both Melissa and Mark Hortman.
Boelter was arrested without incident and booked into Hennepin County Jail, facing two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree attempted murder. Federal charges are also being considered.
