Fatal Clayton Heights police shooting death of Chase De Balinhard

Chase De Balinhard, a 15-year-old student at Clayton Heights Secondary, was killed in a police incident on February 9.

His tragic death occurred following a confrontation with police near the intersection of 70th Avenue and 185th Street in Clayton Heights, where officers reportedly fired shots. De Balinhard was pronounced dead at the scene.

To honor Chase’s memory and continue his charitable work, friends and family have organized a fundraiser on June 27 outside the Save-On-Foods in Clayton Heights.

The event will include selling freezies to raise money for the Terry Fox Foundation, continuing a tradition Chase began years earlier by raising funds for cancer research in honor of Terry Fox.

Chase had a passion for giving back and held annual fundraisers on his birthday, which coincided with the anniversary of Terry Fox’s passing.

In 2018, he raised over $700 through such efforts. His friends are now carrying on this legacy to keep both his memory and spirit alive.

Despite months passing since the incident, many questions remain unanswered about the circumstances surrounding Chase’s death, which has been difficult for his family and community.

The upcoming fundraiser aims to support cancer research while celebrating the life and generosity of Chase De Balinhard.
