Fatal Miami shooting death of Evelyn Valdes
Evelyn Valdes, 28, was killed while celebrating her birthday when she was accidentally caught in gunfire during a police-involved shooting early Saturday in Miami’s Wynwood area.
Authorities said the incident took place near Northwest First Place and 23rd Street just after 3 a.m., when officers responded to a disturbance involving an armed man. As police confronted the suspect, later identified as 30-year-old Norman Lindo Jr., gunshots were exchanged. Valdes, who was driving through the area, was unintentionally hit in the crossfire.
Valdes’ mother shared on a GoFundMe page that her daughter, known for her bright smile and generous spirit, had just turned 28. She described Evelyn as an innocent bystander whose life was cut short during what should have been a time of joy.
Miami Police reported that multiple officers opened fire after spotting Lindo with a firearm. It is still unclear whether Lindo fired first, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is overseeing the investigation due to the involvement of police.
Witnesses described hearing numerous shots, estimating around 10, and one club employee was also reportedly injured by a stray bullet during the chaos.
Both Valdes and Lindo were rushed to Ryder Trauma Center, where they were later pronounced dead. Lindo’s father posted a tribute on social media mourning the loss of his son.
Valdes’ family has retained legal representation and plans to release an official statement. A fundraiser has been launched to assist with funeral costs.
