Fatal Leland car crash death of James Alex Jones
A man in his sixties was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Mt. Misery Road in Leland, North Carolina, on the evening of June 6. Authorities have identified the deceased as James Alex Jones, a local resident.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported that Jones was trying to exit a driveway when an oncoming car collided with his vehicle. The impact caused both cars to veer into a third vehicle nearby.
The crash occurred at approximately 9:40 p.m. in the 3100 block of Mt. Misery Road. Jones died at the scene as a result of the collision.
Troopers say a woman who was driving one of the vehicles involved has been charged with felony hit and run resulting in serious injury or death, as well as driving while impaired. Her identity has not been made public due to the active nature of the investigation.
Investigators noted that no other individuals involved in the crash sustained serious injuries. Additional charges against the driver are anticipated as the inquiry continues.
